CARE Counseling has partnered with Kailey Bradley, MA, LPCC-S, NCC, FT to provide a Grand Rounds training on how to support Neurodiverse grievers. Neurodiversity is a model that affirms that brains that operate differently aren’t deficient but rather -they are simply different. There are many misconceptions about neurodiversity. One is that individuals who are neurodiverse are not emotional. Emotions may just be experienced differently - many neurodiverse individuals have a higher sensitivity and feel emotions deeply and learned that in order to appear “normal” they mask how they are truly feeling, which results in uncertainty and unfamiliarity with how to express and label emotions. Providers can be compassionately curious with their neurodiverse clients about how emotions show up and present and offer safe spaces where masking does not have to occur.
