CARE Counseling has partnered with Gerald Schwanke, LMFT, to provide an overview on Emotion-Focused Couple Therapy (EFT). EFT is an attachment, experiential based approach to supporting couples, individuals, and therapists walk through difficult relationship issues, stressors, traumatic experiences. The attachment approach in EFT keeps the individual, couple and therapist focused on the emotions and attachment longings that are created in stressful and conflicted situations. By using therapist’s validation and present moment, in session experiences the couple begin to experience emotional bonding that is aimed at satisfying the attachment longings with the desired result of deepening connection in the relationship. In this brief presentation, attendees will learn the various research approaches used in EFT, the history and development of EFT and 5 techniques that have been found helpful to support couples and therapists engage in present moment experiences that lead to more lasting changes and relationship satisfaction.
