PILT Training: Working with Couples and Families | 4 CE Credits

Throughout this series, CARE Counseling will be presenting on diagnostic considerations, conceptualization, and assessment; biopsychosocial and cultural considerations when working with couples and families; therapeutic approaches evidence-based interventions to apply in psychotherapy practice; as well as ethical and self-as therapy considerations in the work with couples and families.

CARE Psychotherapy Training Videos are intended solely for educational purposes for mental health professionals. Viewers are expected to treat confidential material found herein according to professional guidelines. Unauthorized viewing is prohibited. 

Level of programming is intermediate: assumes general familiarity with the topic. 

This training is designed to help attendees 

First hour:  

  • Learn one+ key aspect about the diagnostic process when working with couples & families    
  • Acquire two+ new ways to gather diagnostic information through interview questions and assessments 

Second hour:  

  • Identify one+ biological and one+ psychological consideration for working with partners and families. 
  • Identify one+ social, environmental and cultural consideration for working with partners and families. 

Third hour: 

  • Describe two+ theoretical approaches to working with couples and families    
  • Apply two+ interventions that you can add to your "toolbox" for working with couples and families. 

Fourth Hour  

  • Discuss one way “the self as therapist” influences work with partners and families.  
  • Describe client and family centered treatment planning  
  • Identify one+ ethical and legal consideration when working with couples and families

The presentation is designated for psychologists and mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students.

CARE Counseling is approved by the Board of Psychology to sponsor continuing education. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

About the Presenters:

Sarah K. Sifers, Ph.D, LP, is a psychologist and clinical supervisor at CARE Counseling as well as a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach.  Dr. Sarah has a Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Kansas (2003) and is a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional, Mayo Clinic Certified Wellness Coach, and a Certified Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy Facilitator. Dr. Sarah is a Minnesota Board of Psychology approved supervisor for LP and a Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy approved supervisor for LPC and LPCC. She is a former full professor of psychology at Minnesota State University, Mankato and the author of three textbooks and many articles. She has over a decade of clinical experience in outpatient, day treatment, and in-patient clinical practice. Dr. Sarah’s areas of expertise include clarifying diagnoses, providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults with psychological disorders, chemical dependency, or who have experienced traumatic events. She also provides psychological testing, specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders across the lifespan. 

Hannah Dufek, MS, LADC, LPCC, is a mental health professional and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Specialist at CARE Counseling. Prior to working in outpatient mental health, Hannah worked in higher education as a career and academic advisor and participated in leading panels and discussions regarding DEI initiatives at the university. She has additional professional experience working at an intensive residential treatment facility as well as community mental health work supporting refugees and immigrants. Hannah has studied the experiences of marginalized groups in therapy and has training in assessing and treating substance use and recovery in individual and group settings. Her clinical interests include identity exploration and intersections, substance use concerns and recovery, relational work, and trauma.

PILT Training: Working with Couples and Families

CARE Counseling is an approved CE sponsor by the Board of Psychology. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Clinicians can choose to attend one, two, three, or four sessions in this training series.

 

To receive 1 CE credit(s): Clinicians will need to attend the full training hour and obtain a passing post test score (max of 3 attempts allotted).  CARE maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years.
