Grand Rounds : Sexuality for all Abilities | 1 CE Credit

CARE Counseling has partnered with Kristen Mark, PhD, MHP, from the Institute for Sexual & Gender Health at University of Minnesota Medical School, to host this presentation on sexuality for all abilities. Dr. Mark specializes in sexual health and sexuality education, especially for vulnerable populations. She will share about common assumptions regarding sexuality with different forms of ability along with ways of exploring sexuality with all abilities in our therapy practice. 

CARE Psychotherapy Training Videos are intended solely for educational purposes for mental health professionals. Viewers are expected to treat confidential material found herein according to professional guidelines. Unauthorized viewing is prohibited. 

Level of programming is introductory: assumes minimal familiarity with the topic. 

This Grand Rounds is designed to help participants:  

•  Describe the importance of including people of all abilities in sexual health considerations 
• Describe the ways in which sexuality and ability are interrelated. 
• Explain the common assumptions regarding sexuality and disabilities. 
• Identify the common barriers to sexual and reproductive healthcare for persons with disabilities. 
• Identify two tangible ways to make any space more inclusive for approaching sexual health issues for persons with disabilities. 
• Practice one intervention for working with sexuality and sexual health issues in therapy for persons with disabilities. 

The presentation is designated for CARE Counseling mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students. 

CARE Counseling is approved by the Board of Psychology to sponsor continuing education. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

About the Presenter:  

Kristen Mark, PhD, MPH is the Joycelyn Elders Endowed Chair and Professor for Sexual Health Education at the Institute for Sexual & Gender Health in the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health at University of Minnesota Medical School. She is a sex and relationships researcher, educator, and therapist. Before joining UMN last year, she was a Professor and Director of the Sexual Health Promotion Lab at University of Kentucky for 9 years. Dr. Mark specializes in sexual health and sexuality education, especially for vulnerable populations. She is passionate about ensuring sexual health is taught as an integral part of health and that the right to sexual pleasure for all people is emphasized through education and training. Dr. Mark has published her work through over 60 peer reviewed journal articles, more than 150 national and international conferences, and values disseminating relationship and sexual health science to the public through mainstream media.
