Grand Rounds: Psychotropic Interventions for the Non-Prescriber: Mood disorders | 1 CE Credit

CARE Counseling has partnered with Joshua Stein, MD back for a Grand Rounds training on working with mood disorders. Dr. Stein is a Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist, the current President of the MN Society of Child Adolescent Psychiatry and the Clinical Director at the PrairieCare Brooklyn Park Partial Hospital Program (PHP). He will be sharing about psychotropic interventions for depression, bipolar, and related mood disorders. He will speak on how a diagnosis is made, common misdiagnoses, and both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment. He will also provide helpful strategies on coordinating care with medication providers.

CARE Psychotherapy Training Videos are intended solely for educational purposes for mental health professionals. Viewers are expected to treat confidential material found herein according to professional guidelines. Unauthorized viewing is prohibited. 

Level of programming is introductory: assumes minimal familiarity with the topic. 

This Grand Rounds is designed to help participants:

  • Name key diagnostic criteria for depression and bipolar, as well as common misdiagnoses. 
  • Describe both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment for mood disorders. 
  • Identify two+ important factors to coordinating care with prescribers.

The presentation is designated for CARE Counseling mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students.  

CARE Counseling is approved by the Board of Psychology to sponsor continuing education. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

About the Presenter: 

Dr. Stein is the clinical director and an attending clinician at the PrairieCare Brooklyn Park Partial Hospital Program (PHP) and operates a clinic out of the Brooklyn Park Medical Office Building. In addition, he is the former of the Minnesota Society for Child Adolescent Psychiatry and he focuses on local and national advocacy for children’s mental health with a goal to increase access to quality care. Dr. Stein completed is his degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School and he specializes in General Psychiatry as well as Child Adolescent Psychiatry, working with the mental health needs of young people and their families. He is a dynamic speaker, with topics including ADHD, psychotropic interventions, suicide awareness & prevention. Finally, he is part of the award-winning Psychiatric Assistance Line, providing psychiatric education and support to primary care physicians throughout the state to expand access to psychiatric resources. *The speaker has indicated no conflicts of interest. There was no commercial support for this training.

Psychotropic Interventions for the Non-Prescriber: Mood disorders

This continuing education activity is approved by the MN Board of Psychology (LPC/LPCC) for one credit hour. Clinicians will need to attend the full session to receive CE. It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that continuing education earned at CARE or elsewhere meets the requirements for their State and individual license.  

To receive 1 CE credit(s): Clinicians will need to attend the full training and obtain a passing post test score (max of 3 attempts allotted).  CARE maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years.
