CARE has partnered with clinical team member Dr. Jaimie Ascencio for a Grand Rounds on ways of promoting resilience through connection with nature. Jaime Ascencio, PhD, LP, HTR is a Psychologist at CARE Counseling and a Registered Horticultural Therapist. This presentation focuses on how providers can use nature-based interventions to improve resilience for their clients and themselves. Specific examples are provided at multiple intervention levels, including methods of increasing nature contact in-session, adjusting current interventions to include a nature component, and introducing nature-based interventions. Research support for theoretical underpinnings, the healing impact of specific elements of natural environments, and nature's effect on resilience are discussed.

About the Presenter:
Jaime Ascencio, PhD, LP, HTR is a Psychologist at CARE Counseling and a Registered Horticultural Therapist. Dr. Ascencio has conducted research on horticultural therapy groups and recently founded Nurture through Nature to offer community presentations about the benefits of connection with nature. She is passionate about facilitating nature-based therapy groups, incorporating it into all aspects of her practice, and presenting research at conferences and to the wider community.
