The Role of Pain Science in Physical Therapy | 1 CE Credit

CARE Counseling has partnered with Motion Minnesota to provide a Grand Rounds training on the role of pain science in physical therapy. Dr. Maggie Henjum, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, Owner and CEO of Motion + Therapy Partners, will provide an overview on physical therapy, the role of pain, and effective ways of working with pain in therapy. Dr. Henjum is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist and is a faculty member at the University of Minnesota, and South College in their doctoral program and Evidence in Motion in their residency and fellowship programs. She has worked for the Olympic Ski team as medical staff since 2017, where she gets to see the most remote areas of the world helping people move, stay healthy and happy. 

CARE Psychotherapy Training Videos are intended solely for educational purposes for mental health professionals. Viewers are expected to treat confidential material found herein according to professional guidelines. Unauthorized viewing is prohibited. 

Level of programming is introductory: assumes minimal familiarity with the topic.

This Grand Rounds is designed to help participants: 

1. Name three types of pain
2. Describe how a pain informed physical therapist approaches pain
3. Recognize complexity of what feeds into pain stories 

The presentation is designated for CARE Counseling mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students.  

CARE Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content. It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that continuing education earned at CARE or elsewhere meets the requirements for their State and individual license.

About the Presenter: 

Dr. Maggie Henjum, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Board-Certified Orthopedic. She is also Fellow trained through the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapy, completing her doctorate at UC Denver, residency and fellowship in pain science and manual therapy. She has conducted research in spine and backcountry medicine and worked for the Olympic Ski team as medical staff since 2017 where she gets to see the most remote areas of the world helping people move, stay healthy and happy. Additionally, she is a faculty member at the University of Minnesota, and South College in their doctoral program and Evidence in Motion in their residency and fellowship programs. 

 *The speaker has indicated one conflict of interest of working at a clinic that provides physical therapy, however, there was no commercial support for this training.

It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that continuing education earned at CARE or elsewhere meets the requirements for their State and individual license.  

To receive 1 CE credit(s): Clinicians will need to attend the full training hour and obtain a passing post test score (max of 3 attempts allotted).  CARE maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years.
