Perinatal Mental Health: Cultural Considerations | 1 CE Credit

CARE Counseling has partnered with Pregnancy and Postpartum Support MN, an organization that engages parents, families, and professionals to promote optimal emotional well-being during pregnancy and postpartum. Joining us from PPSM, is Dr. Elizabeth Adedokun, PhD, LMFT, PMH-C, who is trained in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International and has a passion for supporting parents and their emotional health before, during, and after pregnancy. Dr. Adedokun will provide an overview of perinatal mental health including cultural factors and affirming approaches.  

CARE Psychotherapy Training Videos are intended solely for educational purposes for mental health professionals. Viewers are expected to treat confidential material found herein according to professional guidelines. Unauthorized viewing is prohibited. 

Level of programming is introductory: assumes minimal familiarity with the topic.

This Grand Rounds is designed to help participants: 

1. Identify key cultural factors when working with PMH 
2. Name cultural considerations during assessment and treatment planning. 

The presentation is designated for CARE Counseling mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Elizabeth Adedokun, PhD, LMFT, PMH-C, has over 9 years of experience working with adolescent and families from an attachment approach. Dr. Adedokun is certified in Perinatal mental health and also incorporates attachment theory during work with parents. Dr. Adedokun is passionate about working with mothers on attachment with their children. Over the last 6 years, Dr. Adedokun has present on attachment theory and adolescent mental health. Dr. Adedokun has received her training from Northwestern University and Drexel University.

CARE Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content. It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that continuing education earned at CARE or elsewhere meets the requirements for their State and individual license.  

To receive 1 CE credit(s): Clinicians will need to attend the full training hour and obtain a passing post test score (max of 3 attempts allotted).  CARE maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years.
