Self-Care as an Ethical Responsibility | 2 CE Credits

CARE Counseling has partnered with Dr. Jennifer Londgren, the Associate Professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato for this training on self-care as an ethical responsibility. Healthcare professionals face several challenges and stressors, and self-care efforts are needed to effectively manage these challenges and demands. This presentation will discuss ethical principles in behavioral healthcare and how mental wellbeing plays a critical role in ethical decision making and ethical behavior.

The CARE Grand Rounds is intended to help attendees:

First Hour
1. Define ethical principles in behavioral healthcare
2. Outline the role of mental wellbeing in ethical decision making
3. Describe foundational aspects of self-care
4. Outline the relationship between self-care and ethical behavior

Second Hour

1. Understand the relationship between self-care and ethical decision-making. 
2. Identify how burnout can lead to boundary violations in the counseling relationship. 
3. Discuss appropriate self-disclosure situations. 
4. Identify self-care practices for counselors. 

The presentation is designated for psychologists and mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students.

CARE Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Jennifer Londgren is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a nationally certified counselor, and a board certified telemental health provider. She is an Associate Professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and the Program Coordinator for the Alcohol and Drug Studies Program. Dr. Longren frequently presents workshops about self-care, wellbeing, ethics, and innovative teaching techniques.

CARE Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content. It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that continuing education earned at CARE or elsewhere meets the requirements for their State and individual license.

 

To receive 2 CE credit(s): Clinicians will need to attend both training sessions and obtain a passing post test score (max of 3 attempts allotted).  CARE maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years.
