Choppy Waters to Tidal Waves: Psychotropic interventions for Anxiety and OCD | 1 CE Credit

CARE Counseling has partnered with Joshua Stein, MD for a Grand Rounds training on pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to working with Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Dr. Stein is a Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist, the current President of the MN Society of Child Adolescent Psychiatry and the Clinical Director at the PrairieCare Brooklyn Park Partial Hospital Program (PHP). Dr. Stien will provide an overview of diagnostic criteria for initiation of medications used for anxiety. He will discuss pharmacologic options, considerations of fit for each client, and effective ways to discuss with clients when mediations are indicted. He will also speak about complementary and alternative methods of supporting children and their families.

Level of programming is introductory: assumes minimal familiarity with the topic.

The CARE Grand Rounds is intended to help attendees: 

  • Review diagnostic criteria for initiation of medications used for anxiety
  • Practice of art of introduction and discussion when meds are indicted
  • Clarify pharmacologic options and consider fit for each patient
  • Identify complementary and alternative methods of support for children and their families

The presentation is designated for psychologists and mental health professionals (LP, LPC/LPCC, MFT/LMFT, LGSW/LICSW, LADC), pre-licensed mental health practitioners, and students.

About the Presenter: 

Dr. Joshua Stein, a 2024 Mpls magazine rising star physician, is the medical director of youth services for PrairieCare as well as a practicing as a general and child adolescent psychiatrist in inpatient, PHP and clinic levels of care. He is part of the award-winning Psychiatric Assistance Line, providing psychiatric education and support to primary care physicians throughout the state to expand access to psychiatric resources. He is a dynamic speaker, with topics including ADHD, psychotropic interventions, suicide awareness & prevention. In addition, he is the former president of the Minnesota Society for Child Adolescent Psychiatry and a local and national advocate for children’s mental health needs.

CARE Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CARE maintains responsibility for this program and its content. It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that continuing education earned at CARE or elsewhere meets the requirements for their State and individual license.  

To receive 1 CE credit(s): Clinicians will need to attend the full training hour and obtain a passing post test score (max of 3 attempts allotted).  CARE maintains attendance records of all continuing education event attendees for a period of at least three years.
